RESEARCH CENTRED ON THE PERSON
NEXUS N1
One person. Their story. New questions for research.
With NEXUS N1, digitalCode Sagl is developing the vision for an individual translational research platform: connecting observations from a person’s life with scientific knowledge to frame questions and hypotheses for investigation.
Vision and architecture documents are available. The research platform is not yet available and does not offer clinical services.
Shared roots, an independent path
NEXUS N1 began with the need to better understand an autistic person’s journey by bringing together information that often remains separate. Andy’s Project introduces it as a digitalCode Sagl initiative with its own identity and research path.
The current vision spans autism, neurodevelopmental conditions and rare diseases. The proposed first area of validation is a small group of rare neurodevelopmental conditions: a starting point to be defined with the necessary scientific expertise.
The individual, observed over time
NEXUS evokes connection; N1 places the individual at the starting point. The idea is to build a history that brings together everyday observations, clinical information, environment and relationships, preserving the source and limitations of each piece of information.
The stated aim is to contribute to research on distress, wellbeing, autonomy and quality of life while respecting the person’s identity and goals. Observations must remain distinguishable from interpretations.
From observations to testable hypotheses
The project proposes linking individual histories with traceable scientific sources. Artificial intelligence would help organise information and frame hypotheses, also making contrary evidence, uncertainty and missing information visible.
The approach requires human review and scientific validation: a relationship between events does not, by itself, establish a cause. Individualised molecular research is a later, conditional prospect, outside the scope of the planned first prototype.
The work ahead
The current reference is the v0.4 vision and architecture document. Next steps involve scientific discussion, defining the first area of study, governance and a prototype able to reconstruct reliable histories and documented research questions.
People, families, clinicians, researchers, and data and ethics specialists are the contributors the project seeks to involve. Consent, data protection and a manageable commitment for families are part of the design from the outset.
A conversation to shape the idea.
